Terms of Use

Last updated: 10th May 2026

These Terms of Use govern your use of ilerada.com and any related sub-domains, mobile applications, newsletters, and other services we operate under the Ilerada name (together, “Ilerada” or “the service”). They apply alongside our Privacy Policy and our Medical Disclaimer, and together those documents form the agreement between you and us.

Please read them. The most important section is the Medical Disclaimer (Section 5) — please read that one even if you read nothing else.

1. Who we are

Ilerada is operated by Cormen (“Cormen”, “we”, “us”, “our”).

For general questions about these Terms, contact hello@ilerada.com. For privacy and data-protection questions, contact our Data Protection Officer at dpo@cormen.org.

2. Your agreement to these Terms

By accessing Ilerada, creating an account, posting a comment, subscribing to our newsletter, or otherwise using any part of the service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Ilerada.

If you are using Ilerada on behalf of an organisation (a clinic, a school, an NGO, a media outlet), you confirm that you have authority to bind that organisation, and “you” in these Terms means both you and that organisation.

3. Who can use Ilerada

  • Reading. Anyone can read articles on Ilerada. Health information should not be locked behind language, location or login.
  • User accounts and newsletter sign-up. You must be 18 years of age or older to create an account, post a comment, or sign up for our newsletter. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian to do this on your behalf.
  • Children’s content. Articles about children’s health on Ilerada are written for parents, guardians and health workers — not for children themselves.
  • Where you live. Ilerada is intended for readers in Nigeria. You may use it from anywhere in the world, but the medical content references Nigerian guidelines, foods, services and emergency numbers, and may not be appropriate for use outside Nigeria.

4. What Ilerada is — and is not

Ilerada is a health information service. We publish articles, written by verified clinicians, that explain everyday health topics in plain language across English, Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa.

Ilerada is not:

  • A medical, nursing, midwifery, pharmacy, dietetic or psychological consultation.
  • A diagnosis service.
  • A prescription service.
  • An emergency service.
  • A substitute for being seen by a registered healthcare professional who knows you.

We do not have a doctor–patient relationship with our readers. Reading an article is not the same as being examined.

5. Medical disclaimer

Ilerada is for general health education only. It is not a medical consultation and it cannot replace one.

If you are unwell:

  • Please see a registered healthcare professional who can examine you, take a history, and arrange tests where needed.
  • In an emergency, go to the nearest hospital or call your local emergency number immediately. Do not delay seeking emergency care because of anything you have read on Ilerada.

Although our content is reviewed by licensed Nigerian clinicians and we cite Nigerian and international guidelines, medicine evolves, individuals differ, and no article can substitute for a personal clinical assessment. We do our best to make our content accurate, current and clearly written. We cannot guarantee that any specific recommendation is suitable for you in particular, and we accept no liability for clinical decisions made on the basis of an article alone (subject to Section 14).

If something on Ilerada appears to be wrong or out of date, please write to corrections@ilerada.com. We take corrections seriously.

6. User accounts

If you create an account on Ilerada:

  • The information you provide must be accurate and reasonably current.
  • You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for everything that happens under your account. Please tell us at hello@ilerada.com if you suspect your account has been used without your permission.
  • You may close your account at any time. We may also suspend or close an account that has been used to breach these Terms (see Section 13).
  • One person, one account. Please do not create multiple accounts to avoid moderation or appear to be more than one person.

7. Acceptable use

When using Ilerada, you agree that you will not:

  • Post anything that is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, threatening, obscene, hateful, or that incites violence or discrimination on any grounds protected under Nigerian law.
  • Post anything that promotes self-harm, suicide, or eating disorders, or that targets minors in a sexualised or harmful way.
  • Impersonate another person, or falsely claim to be a registered healthcare professional when you are not.
  • Post personal medical advice as if you were a clinician, including in comment threads. General experience-sharing is fine; advising a stranger to take or stop a medicine is not.
  • Post advertisements, spam, multi-level marketing pitches, “miracle cures”, unverified herbal remedies, or links to scams.
  • Disclose other people’s personal or health information without their consent — including identifying patients, family members, or healthcare workers in a way they have not agreed to.
  • Attempt to break, probe, scrape at scale, reverse-engineer, or interfere with Ilerada or any underlying systems, including by introducing malware, by automated scraping that ignores our robots.txt, or by attempting to overload the service.
  • Use Ilerada or its content to train a machine-learning model without our prior written permission.
  • Use Ilerada in any way that breaks Nigerian law, the law of the country you are reading from, or these Terms.

We may remove content, suspend accounts, or report serious cases to the appropriate authorities at our discretion (see Section 13).

8. Comments and other content you submit

Some articles on Ilerada allow comments or questions. If you submit a comment, question, correction or any other content (collectively, “User Content”):

  • You keep ownership of what you write. We do not claim to own your User Content.
  • You give us a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive licence to display, reproduce, translate (including across our four launch languages), edit lightly for clarity, store, and distribute your User Content within Ilerada and our other Cormen services, for as long as you keep the content live with us. This licence is necessary for us to host and display your comment at all.
  • You confirm that what you post is your own, does not infringe anyone else’s rights, is not confidential to a third party, and does not breach Section 7.
  • We may moderate. We may edit lightly, remove, or refuse to publish any User Content, especially where it contains medical advice that could harm a reader, identifies a patient, or breaches Section 7. We try to apply moderation fairly and consistently. We do not commit to monitoring every comment in real time and are not liable for User Content posted by others.
  • You may request removal of your own past comments — write to hello@ilerada.com.

If you have a clinical complaint about something a clinician has written under their byline on Ilerada, please write to corrections@ilerada.com — that is the better channel than the comment thread.

9. Our content and intellectual property

All articles, images, illustrations, code, design elements, logos, the Ilerada name, the Cormen name and the visual brand identity (collectively, “Our Content”) are owned by Cormen or licensed to us. They are protected by copyright, trade-mark and other applicable laws.

You may:

  • Read and link to our articles freely.
  • Quote short passages with attribution to “Ilerada” and a link back to the original article. A few sentences is fine; reproducing whole articles is not.
  • Print individual articles for your own non-commercial use, or to share with a patient, family member or student.
  • Translate informally for a friend or family member who would benefit. Please do not republish translations on a public platform without our written permission — we are working on official translations and do not want machine-translated medical content circulating under our name.

You may not, without our prior written permission:

  • Republish, syndicate, mirror, or substantially copy our articles on another site or platform.
  • Use our content in a chatbot, AI assistant, or other automated answering system.
  • Use our brand, logos or design in a way that suggests endorsement or partnership where there is none.
  • Sell, license or otherwise commercialise Our Content.

For partnership, syndication or media-licensing requests, please write to partners@cormen.org.

10. Translations and multilingual versions

Ilerada publishes content in English, Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa, with more languages planned. Where there is any conflict or ambiguity between language versions of an article or these Terms, the English version is the authoritative one.

Some translations on Ilerada may be assisted by automated translation tools. Where this is the case, the article is reviewed by a human reviewer with appropriate language skills before publication. We do our best, but translation across these languages — especially for medical terminology — is genuinely hard. If you spot a translation that reads oddly or is medically inaccurate, please write to corrections@ilerada.com and we will fix it.

11. Third-party content, links and embeds

Articles on Ilerada may link to third-party websites. Articles may also embed third-party content (for example, a video). We do not control those external sites or services, do not endorse all of their content, and are not responsible for what they publish or how they handle your data. Please review their own terms and privacy policies when you visit them.

12. Service availability and changes

We aim to keep Ilerada available and current, but we cannot promise uninterrupted service. We may, at any time and without prior notice:

  • Add, change, withdraw, or restrict any feature, article or section.
  • Carry out maintenance, security work or upgrades that may temporarily affect availability.
  • Suspend the service in full or in part for legal or operational reasons.

We are not liable for loss arising from short interruptions, planned maintenance, or routine changes. For substantial changes that affect registered users, we will give reasonable notice where we can.

13. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or end your access to Ilerada — including by deactivating your account or removing User Content — if we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms, broken the law, or put other users at risk. Where the breach is minor and easily fixed, we will normally try to contact you first. Where it is serious (for example, harassment, repeated misinformation about medication, or attempts to break the service), we may act without prior notice.

You may end your relationship with us at any time by closing your account, unsubscribing from our newsletter, or simply by leaving the site. Sections that should reasonably survive (intellectual property, disclaimers, liability, governing law) continue after termination.

14. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

Ilerada is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by Nigerian law:

  • We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, free of viruses or malicious code, or that any specific result will be achieved by following our content.
  • We do not warrant that any article is suitable for your particular medical situation. Articles are general health education — see Section 5.
  • We exclude all implied warranties (including implied warranties of merchantability and fitness for purpose) to the fullest extent the law allows.
  • We are not liable for User Content posted by others, for content on third-party sites we link to, or for outages or losses caused by events outside our reasonable control (including failures of third-party hosting, electricity supply, internet connectivity, or government action).

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or any other liability that cannot be limited or excluded under Nigerian law.

15. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold Cormen, its officers, directors, employees, contractors and clinical reviewers harmless from any claim, loss, damage, liability or reasonable legal cost arising out of (a) your breach of these Terms, (b) your User Content, or (c) your unlawful use of Ilerada. This does not apply to the extent the loss is caused by our own negligence, fraud or wilful misconduct, or to claims that cannot be indemnified against under Nigerian law.

16. Privacy and data protection

Your privacy matters to us. How we collect and use your personal data is set out in detail in our Privacy Policy.

If you have a privacy or data-protection concern, please contact our Data Protection Officer at dpo@cormen.org.

17. Governing law and disputes

These Terms and any non-contractual obligations arising from them are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

If a dispute arises between you and us, please contact us first at hello@ilerada.com so we can try to resolve it informally — most issues can be sorted out this way. If we cannot resolve it within 30 days of you contacting us, the dispute will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts, and you agree to submit to that jurisdiction.

18. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time — for example, when we add a new feature, when the law changes, or when we want to make something clearer. When we do:

  • The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will change.
  • For substantial changes that affect registered users, we will give reasonable notice (typically at least 14 days) by email and by posting a notice on the site before the changes take effect.
  • Continuing to use Ilerada after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not accept them, please close your account or stop using the service before that date.

19. General

  • Severability. If any part of these Terms is found by a court to be unenforceable, the rest of the Terms continue to apply.
  • No waiver. Our not enforcing a right immediately does not mean we waive it.
  • Assignment. You may not assign your rights under these Terms without our written permission. We may assign ours — for example, in a corporate restructure within the Cormen group — without your permission, provided your rights are not reduced.
  • Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Medical Disclaimer, are the entire agreement between you and us about Ilerada. They replace any earlier discussions, draft terms, or representations.
  • Headings. Section headings are for convenience only and do not affect interpretation.
  • Notices. Notices to us should be sent to hello@ilerada.com and (where the matter is legal) copied to legal@cormen.org.
