1. Who we are
Ilerada is operated by Cormen, a company registered in Nigeria. Cormen is the data controller for this website. Our Data Protection Officer can be contacted at dpo@cormen.org.
This policy sits alongside — and is consistent with — the main Cormen Privacy Policy at cormen.org/privacy. Where the two differ, the one on the specific service you are using applies to that service.
2. What we collect
If you just read the site
You do not need an account to read anything on Ilerada. If you only read articles, we collect:
- Basic technical data — IP address, browser type, device type, the pages you visit, and how you arrived.
- Cookie preferences you have set.
We use this to keep the site secure, fix problems, and understand which articles are most useful.
If you create an account
We collect your name, email, password (hashed), language preference, and any profile fields you choose to fill in. You can close your account at any time.
If you post comments or questions
We collect the content you post, plus your IP address and browser information to help us detect spam and abuse.
If you sign up for our newsletter
We collect your email address and language preference. You can unsubscribe from any email we send.
3. Health-sensitive information
The articles you read on Ilerada can reveal health concerns. We treat this carefully:
- We do not link your reading history to marketing profiles.
- We do not share your reading history with third parties.
- We do not sell data — period.
- Analytics are aggregated; we look at “how many people read this malaria article”, not “which person read which symptom page”.
4. How we use your data
- To deliver the service — show you the article you asked for, remember your language.
- To improve content — identify gaps, confusing sections, and popular topics.
- To communicate with you — answer questions you send us; send newsletters you subscribed to.
- To keep the site safe — detect fraud, abuse and attacks.
5. Cookies
- Essential cookies for the site to function.
- Analytics cookies (privacy-respecting, aggregated).
- Preference cookies (your language, text size).
We do not use third-party advertising cookies. You can manage cookies from the banner on your first visit and in settings.
6. Embedded content
Some articles include embedded content (for example, a video from YouTube). When you interact with embedded content, the other website may set its own cookies and collect data about you, just as if you had visited that site directly. We try to keep such embeds to a minimum.
7. Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with:
- Service providers who help us run the site (hosting, email, analytics), under strict contracts.
- Authorities, where Nigerian law requires it.
8. Retention
- Comments: kept while the article is live, so discussions stay intact. You can request deletion of your own comments.
- Account data: kept while your account is active, plus up to 12 months after closure.
- Newsletter: kept until you unsubscribe, then removed within 30 days.
- Logs: up to 12 months.
9. Your rights
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDPA), you have rights of access, correction, deletion, objection, restriction, portability and to withdraw consent. You can also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC). See the main Cormen Privacy Policy section 10 for full details, or email dpo@cormen.org.
10. Medical disclaimer
Ilerada is a health information service. It is not a medical consultation. Content is for general education and is reviewed by licensed professionals, but it cannot replace an examination by a doctor who knows you. If you are unwell, please see a healthcare professional. In an emergency, go to the nearest hospital or call your local emergency number.
11. Changes to this policy
If we make significant changes, we will notify registered users by email and post a notice on the site 14 days before the changes take effect.
12. Contact
- dpo@cormen.org — for anything about this policy.
