About Ilerada

Trustworthy health information, in the languages Nigerians speak.

Ilerada is part of Cormen, a Nigerian health-technology group. We exist to make reliable, plain-language health information available to everyone — reviewed by clinicians and grounded in local reality.

Our name

Ilerada comes from two Yoruba words: Ilera, meaning health, and Eda, meaning humankind. Health for everyone — not just for those who can afford it, speak English, or live near a teaching hospital.

What Ilerada is

Ilerada is a Nigerian health information website. We answer the everyday questions Nigerians actually ask — about fever in a child, about blood pressure, about malaria, about pregnancy, about mental health — in plain language, in the languages people think in, and in ways that respect how people actually live.

If you have ever typed a symptom into Google and come away more confused, or more scared, than when you started — Ilerada is for you.

What we do differently

  • Written for Nigerians first. A malaria article on Ilerada assumes you know what malaria is. An article on hypertension talks about salted fish and Maggi, not American diet advice.
  • In your language. We publish in English, Yoruba, Igbo and Hausa. We are adding Pidgin and more languages.
  • Reviewed by Nigerian doctors. Every article is written or checked by a licensed Nigerian healthcare professional. Their name, credentials and review date are on every page.
  • Clear about uncertainty. When the evidence is thin or mixed, we say so.
  • Clear about red flags. Every condition article tells you when to stop reading and go to a hospital.
  • Free to read. No paywall on health information. Ever.

What Ilerada is not

Ilerada is not a doctor. We do not diagnose you, and we do not prescribe. Reading an article is not the same as being examined. If you are ill, please see a healthcare professional.

How our content is made

  1. A Nigerian clinician drafts the article using current clinical guidelines (including Nigerian national guidelines where available).
  2. An editor rewrites it for a reading age of 12 and checks it for local context.
  3. A second clinician, independent of the writer, reviews and signs it off.
  4. We review every article at least once every two years, or sooner when guidelines change.

Who we are for

  • Anyone looking up a health question for themselves or a loved one.
  • Caregivers — parents, spouses, adult children looking after elderly parents, neighbours.
  • Health workers (community health extension workers, nurses, pharmacists) who want clear content to share with patients.
  • Teachers, NYSC members, religious and community leaders who are asked health questions.

How Ilerada is funded

Ilerada is a product of Cormen. We plan to fund it through a mix of: partnerships with health organisations and NGOs, employer wellness programmes, non-medical display advertising (never pharmaceutical ads alongside health advice), and grants. Our funding model will never influence our medical content — this is an enforceable rule, not a preference.
